Federal law makes it criminal to engage in a sexual act with another person who is between the age of 12 and 16 if they are at least four years younger than you.
Other states imply a different method which, like the federal statute, takes into account the relative ages of both people.
There are laws in Canada that restrict who can engage in sexual activity.
In Canada, the basic age of consent for sexual activity is 16 years old, but there are exceptions to this rule for people who are close in age and for people who are in a relationship of trust, dependency and/or authority.
